Kayak Fishing in Lowcountry Area
I'm moving to the Charleston area from Belle Chasse, LA. I've been yak fishing here for the last couple years from Plaquemines Parish to Grand Isle. I'm trying to find out if there are any kayak fishing clubs around there. I'm ready to see if South Carolina is even close to Louisiana fishing!! I appreciate all the help.

  • Brian Cope soaking a live Shrimp
MASTER ANGLER Brian Cope says that it is a little chilly on the backside, and he doesn't mean the back side of the flat. He meant the BUM. Fishing in the chilly weather in a kayak can be a cold adventure. Many times kayak anglers drop the water from the paddle down the sleeves on the way to the spot and then have to sit in a puddle of chilly H20 until the adventure is over.

This isn't.... Read More

  • Yella Mouth in the Upper Wando River
The speckled trout are turning on in the Upper Wando. Outgoing water over my favorite shell bed seems to be the best bite. I am working DOA free lined with 10 lb mono and usually getting a bite on the cast. As soon as it gets down in the water column it has been swimming away, I just reel down and set the hook deep into the jaws of another Yella Mouth. As the water temp cools off they should be.... Read More

  • Sarajane Marshall of Charleston shows off a nice Murrells Inlet seatrout.
Kayak fishing is still one of the fastest growing segments of the angling community, and stand up paddleboarding is following its footsteps. What started off as a simple recreational sport is being transformed into another method of catching fish.

This type of fishing is eco-friendly and can be done on a very low budget. It also simplifies the sport and gets the angler back to the basics of.... Read More

A kayak is the perfect watercraft for fishing the Catawba River, and now is a good time to drift this river in search of largemouth bass.

One of the best kayak launches on the river is Rock Hill's Riverwalk Trail. This is a great place to start your fishing journey, or if you're looking for an all-day trip, launch at the base of the Lake Wylie Dam and drift done to the Riverwalk Trail..... Read More

Reading the July issue of South Carolina Sportsman Magazine, Sumter's Dalton Reames took great interest in Phillip Gentry's article entitled 'B's in Your Bonnet.' Gentry's article is about catching bonnethead sharks in the Charleston area.

  • This fish helped Brad Meagan win the Lake Hartwell kayak bass tournament March 5th.
The SCKF Bass Tournament Trail opened its season with a tournament at Twin Lakes Landing on Lake Hartwell March 5th. This tournament trail utilizes the CPR (catch, photo, release) method, so instead of a live weigh-in, anglers photograph their fish against a measuring device, then turn in their memory card at the 'weigh-in.'

The conditions were pretty rough. It began raining as the captain's.... Read More
