Any body shot any big bucks out in the Francis Marion Forest this season (2012)? I had this guy come running out to me after blowing the doe bleat, he was a 5 1/2 year old 6 pointer weighing in at about 155-160 lbs.

  • Evening set with decoys, I failed to carry that morning. This mistake cost me a shot opportunity.

Can anyone comment on the subject? It is a new WMA, in Laurens County, purchased by DNR during 2011. It has, almost 2 miles of river frontage. I can't wait to check it out. It would be great if someone that has been there already would share info/impressions of the place.

I believe Belfast has the potential to produce a state record deer. It may never, but this land is flat awesome. It is huge. It isn't over hunted. And, DNR folks have done a great job on the habitat with food plots and such. Check out the WMA on the DNR site.

Went out in Francis Marion for the first time this season and found a nice spot right near a bedding area. Had 5 nice does walk out a half hour before sunset, I was hoping a good buck would be trailing em. Maybe next time. Anyone shoot anything big in Francis Marion this year?

A balmy 85-degree temperature day greeted the 30 hunters drawn for the three-day hunt along the Savannah River, and for late October it did not feel like deer hunting weather. However, with the promise of a weekend cold front moving through, and lots of acorns on the ground, the ingredients for deer movement were in place. When a shot rang out at 5:30 it signaled to the other draw hunters in....  Read More

The Dove Hunting on the Canal WMA was RED HOT! I have reports of Limits being taken in just over 2 hours. Brantley Williams of Mount Pleasant said 'the shooting was just getting good when we finished up our limit about 3:00' That sounds like a pretty good hunt to me. There are more hunts coming soon. Check out the DNR website for more details.
