Offshore Fishing in Lowcountry Area
Visiting Kiawah island next week. Heard fishing the Kiawah River near the inlet is OK. Any advice? Tackle and bait recommendations? Best time of day to fish? Best to fish when tide is coming in? Sort of new to this sort of fishing. Hoping to take my son so would be great to catch a fish or two!

Appreciate any advice or tips.

Finally, my schedule and the calm seas met each other on the same day and made it possible to head offshore fishing. Gary and I met up with Troy Ham, Randall Knapp, Greg Bacento from Fayetteville, NC. Bryan Dedeaux from Laurel, MD. and Kerwin Steele from Garner, NC. It was beautiful morning with calm winds and a flat ocean. We made our way South around forty miles where the water had warmed up....  Read More

  • Triggerfish are just one of the bottom fish feeding off the coast of Charleston
Capt. Robert Olsen of Knot@Work Fishing Charters is putting his clients on a variety of offshore fish off the coast of Charleston. A recent bottom fishing trip in 100 foot of water netted limits of 5 different species of fish, including triggerfish, which bit throughout the day.

Black sea bass, grouper, and snapper were also plentiful on this trip, and Olsen's crew landed the fish on a....  Read More

  • SHEEPS :0
When the PIGS come out to play. It's my favorite time of the year. Sheepshead are on the the move and getting ready to jump into the boat. They head offshore to the wrecks and reefs in and around 20 to 75 feet.
Massive numbers of sheepshead aka 'CONVICTS' because of their black and white stripes, congregate on the reefs. Grab a pint of fiddlers and get your ugly sticks read. They are some....  Read More

We spent 7 days a week, 14 hours a day, getting her back to new. Had to bring it all the way down to the hull and do a couple of patches, put in new hull and motor supports (the wood beams the motor sits on) and then built a small cabin up front with the bathroom and a ton of rod holders! It was a blast, except for being so tired, it was definitely worth it, I wish I had taken more pictures,....  Read More

  • One of the more popular catches for Knot@Work Fishing Charters right now is grouper.
Capt. Robert Olsen of Knot@Work Charters has been all over a variety of fish in the past few weeks. He said the fishing is outstanding and that he can't remember it being better than it currently is. Snapper, grouper, big black sea bass, and big sheepshead are just a handful of the variety he has been catching with his clients recently.

Olsen fishes out of Shem Creek Marina and can be....  Read More

Schools of Spades will come to the surface on smooth calm days. You can pick out your fish and sight cast to them.

  • Ringtail fish are good to eat, and hang out on nearshore reefs with sheepshead.
Capt. Robert Olsen of Knot@Work Fishing Charters (843-442-7724) has been fishing some nearshore reefs for sheepshead lately, and said the 4-10 pound sheepshead are biting well. He's having to weed his way through a lot of black sea bass, but he said it's worth it. Another bycatch he has experienced lately is the spottail pinfish, also-known-as a ringtail. It is similar to a sheepshead and is....  Read More

After canceling all week we finally had a window to make it out. Our crew was eager and so were we. We didn't take long to hook up. Our first bite almost spooled us. What a way to start. We didn't manage to land that one but after a few more passes had a good wahoo in the boat. We moved on after a while and then tripled up on yellowfin. Landed two of the three tuna. Then no others. Moved once....  Read More

Fished on Sunday for a birthday trip with group from Louisiana…some guys that enjoy fishing and the outdoors. We woke up to calm winds and beautiful skies after spending the better part of the previous day worried about the 6 foot seas. After a calm trip down the river we meet 2-3 seas. After a 30 min boat ride in the gulf we arrived at our destination. We started chumming and in less than five....  Read More
