Hog Hunting in South Carolina
So first let me say I am from Southeast Louisiana and I love hog hunting. Second, me and a buddy of mine want to get a hog sometime soon. We are both stationed in Virginia but for him, he gets out of the Navy in 3 months and we don't have much time to hunt or fish anymore. Now, I have 2 AR-15's and a bow, which my AR-15 is my favorite for hogs to hunt with. What do I need to do to be able to....  Read More

I was just on the SC DNR website and I noticed the hog season on Woodbury WMA is March 2-7, 2015. The dog season is also after the still hunting season. This past March the dog season was before the still hunting and the still hunting season was March 1-15. Seems as though the hog season on all WMA\'s is only 6 days this year for still hunting.

We will be traveling back to SC....  Read More

Early spring is the time of year when PIGS come to mind. They have been eating all of the corn from the deer feeders and messing up deer hunts throughout the season. Now it is time to get them. I like the weather to be cold and the food to be scarce, because it makes them much more predictable.
You can put corn out and make them come regularly without hesitation.

Here piggy Piggy = a....  Read More

  • Hogs are always in season in South Carolina
Deer season is over, but it is always hog season in South Carolina, and sportsmen and women have more options with hogs than deer. While firearms and bows are options for either animal, hog hunters can also use knives, and can also hunt at night.

Sumter's Sarah McClam and Chris Warren haven't let the end of deer season stop them from stocking their freezers full of game. On a recent....  Read More

  • Hunting hogs with dogs is a sure fire way to put meat on the table.
Chris Warren with Big Country Outfitters said harvesting hogs in the cold weather has been no problem lately, but he has had to make some adjustments in order to accommodate deer hunters and plantation owners.

'We don't want to run dogs for hogs during daylight because it messes up the deer hunters, and a lot of land owners don't want us to do that. But, they still have a problem with....  Read More

  • Abbie Strong with her first hog kill
Abbie Strong looked out the back window of her home to see if any whitetail were at the corn pile she and her husband had created one recent morning. She didn't see any deer, but she was just as excited to see a hog, which she dispatched with haste. It's the first hog she has harvested.

Strong put a single bullet behind the hog's ear, then hauled it to Peach Orchard Processing in....  Read More

New to hog hunting. Actually more interested in hogs than whitetail.Problem is I don't know much about it or cleaning the kill. Anyone interested in showing the ropes or need someone to assist in their hunts let me know.
I live in Kershaw county and from what I see there are some good areas nearby.
Thanks,
Scott

  • Big Country Outfitters shows there is no need to wait for deer season to stock the freezer.
In the heat of summer, a lot of outdoorsmen forget hunting season is in full swing, but Dalzell's Chris Warren of Big Country Outfitters hasn't forgotten. Warren has guided for hogs with dogs all summer, and has been having great success, most recently in the Swansea area just off the river.

Warren and his crew harvested 9 hogs in three hunts last week, and have no plans of slowing down.....  Read More

Hello everyone. I live in NYS and would like to come to South Carolina and hunt Hogs. I do not want to hunt with an outfitter. I am looking to hunt private lands. Would like to hunt some where near the Myrtle Beach area. I'd be willing to drive 1 - 2 hours to the property for hunting. Can anyone give me some info. When is the best time to hunt hogs. Thanks, Steve

  • KW McClam poses with the 338-lb sow his party killed during the week of Thanksgiving.
Sumter County's Chris Warren, Mikey Colboth, Sarah McClam, and KW McClam of Big Country Outdoors teamed up during Thanksgiving weekend in Lee County to do some hog hunting with dogs.

The hunting party had a good day, harvesting a 120-pound sow, then following that up with their biggest sow yet, a 338-pounder.

Interested in going on a unique hog hunt? Call Chris Warren of Big Country....  Read More

  • Chris Warren and Mikey Colboth harvested this 85-pound sow early Oct. 30th.
As Hurrican Sandy pounded the northeastern states, it also brought high winds and a lake wind advisory to much of South Carolina, so it was no surprise to Sumter outdoorsmen Chris Warren and Mikey Colboth that they were the only boat at Pack's Landing on the morning of Oct. 30th. Luckily, the two weren't planning a fishing trip. Instead, they were hunting hogs in the Sparkleberry Swamp....  Read More
