  • Poof ~
Upland Game time is just around the corner. I know that it's HOT but you won't believe how fast it will cool off and then it's going to be time.
Another month or two and we will be dragging out the vest and loading up the dogs in the trailer for some fine feathered action. Mike Johnson at The Clinton House Plantation is gearing up for the season with plantings, bush hogging and controlled.... Read More

If you haven't had em this way, then you really haven't had them!!

Mike Johnson, Manager of The Clinton House Plantation taught me a little something about cooking on the grill with my favorite upland game bird.

Fillet the breasts off

Flatten out with palm of hand

Spread Cream Cheese on the end

add a sliver of pepper ( Jalepeno, Red, Yellow)

Roll it up

Wrap with bacon

Lewis Howard of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina joined a few of his buddies at The Clinton House Plantation for an Upland game hunt and was joined by 2 Boykins ( Tillie and Clinton ) They did most of the work, but Lewis managed to help out with the shooting of the Pheasant after the dogs got them up into the air.

Great Shot Lewis!

Leash breaking a young dog is an important training step. Not only does it get the pup use to the leash, but it also helps reinforce who is in charge. A dog that thinks they are in charge will not be enjoyable when heading to the woods to hunt.

  • Basil on the run
Don't let the thoughts of cold winter days make you forget to get your bird dogs some H2O. The running and gunning on these days when the weather can't decide to stay cold or heat up is tough on man's best friend. Always keep a water source around for your bird dogs and slow the pace when it gets too hot. These faithful companions can overheat before you know it.

The State Youth Coon Hunt is held at the end of winter at the Webb Wildlife Center in Hampton County. This event is sponsored by SCDNR but is in large part due to the work of the S.C. Coonhunter's Association and their President David McKee. 'This year's hunt was another good group of kids with about 50% of them coming to hunt with us for the first time,' said McKee, who also added that he loves.... Read More

DOG PROOF THE CLUB BEFORE LETTING THE DOGS IN!!

I just got back from a week long duck hunt on the Cape Fear River and wanted to share about a near disaster with our dogs. We arrived at the club after dark and it was a club we had not stayed at before this trip. We proceeded to let the dogs out since they'd spent more than three hours in the car and started unloading our gear. As we were.... Read More

The 2011 Grand American has it's specialties...and That's COON DOGS. But there are also some fun and exciting things to do ....Cotton Candy!! Oh and watching the dog show. A little bit of barking going on at the 2011 Grand American! Walking through the lot there were literally 1000's of coon dogs. All barking in chorus. It was a dog hunters dream come true. There were coons in trees and dogs on the podiums. Everyone should visit the Grand American at least once.

This guy should have been a surefire winner!!
