The Upland bird hunting has been excellent with temperatures in the 40's and 50's, Dogs can get out there and stretch their legs and RUN. A full day of tromping around in the brush is a great way to get out and get some exercise at the same time.
Coveys are hard to find these days, but if you are persistent and go where the quail are, you will scare up a covey rise.

Eleven year old Gabe Boggs of Six Mile receives a complementary hat for his first bear from SCDNR Technician Ken Forrester. Boggs took his 188 pound bear with one shot from a 44 magnum while on a dog hunt in Pickens County last week. Boggs says that he plans to have the bear mounted.

Quail season for most of the state has been over for a month, but quail preserve season has continued through the end of March. One of the most popular quail preserves in South Carolina is the Clinton House Plantation. Located in Clinton, the Clinton House is managed by Mike Johnson, who trains bird dogs as well as runs the Clinton House.

Chase Roebuck is deadly with a .22 rifle in hand. He regularly shoots the base of shotgun shells that are lined up on a 2 x 4 with open sights. I enjoyed an outing in the woods with him to see how he do with a moving critter. Turns out that he is just as deadly with the .22 when the targets move.

I went along on a Tower Shoot with my mom where they were shooting pheasant's. It was very different from what I thought a tower shoot would be...and I was also surprised by how pretty these birds actually were. This is a picture of one of the pheasant that my Mom killed on our trip.
