Number of record-book bucks increased in 2015

South Carolina’s 2016 antler-scoring sessions have added 217 new record-book bucks, according to Charles Ruth, the deer project leader for the S.C. Department of Natural Resources, a big increase over the previous year, with the big stars being a huge typical buck from Anderson County and a huge non-typical from Greenville County.

Youth archers participate in SCDNR Fun Shoot at Belfast WMA

SCDNR hosting meeting on Wateree River Heritage Preserve WMA

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is hosting a public meeting to solicit input on the proposed management plan for Wateree River Heritage Preserve Wildlife Management Area in Richland County. Local archers finish 2nd, 3rd, in NASP World Tournament

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the city of Myrtle Beach recently played host to more than 4,000 youth archers from the United States, Canada and Mongolia, along with their parents, coaches and supporters, at the National Archery in Schools Program's (NASP) 2016 World Tournament and World IBO 3-D Challenge. High-school, middle- and elementary school-aged student-archers competed for prizes and scholarships at the four-day event, which took place June 23-26.

Former Conservationist of the Year fined $75,000 for killing hawks

Orangeburg attorney and University of South Carolina trustee Charles Williams was awarded Quail Unlimited’s Conservationist of the Year in 1995, for his time, energy, and passion for wildlife, but he has now been charged, found guilty, and fined $75,000 for killing hawks.
