Blake Hodge will be a rising ninth grader at Buford High School this year. His summer education included schooling the 2010 Team Real Duck two-man World Duck Calling Contest on July 24 in Texas. A few years ago, Easley’s Danny Dillard shot a big 12-point buck on a private parcel of land in Anderson County, then watched in disbelief as the buck ran headlong into a pine tree, snapping off one of its brow tines at the base.
Dillard never had the antlers scored, opting instead to have the broken tine repaired and adding it to his collection of trophy racks. But his payback came in a big way last Oct. 23, while hunting on the same 1,200-acre property.

Horry County woman is winner of Bag-a-Buck contest for November

The last 12 months were a whirlwind for Lorie Anderson of Aynor.

A bookkeeper at a middle school in Conway, she got a Remington 770 rifle in .243 caliber for Christmas from her husband, Will. She also went on her first deer hunt in December of 2008. Earlier this year, she bought a Leupold scope to go on the rifle. She killed her first deer, a doe in September, early in the season. Then, she killed her first buck on Nov. 9: an 8-pointer with a 17˝-inch spread that weighed 160 pounds.Read More...
