April has made favorite memories

I have written often about my love for the months of April and October, my two favorites of the 12 calendar pages. I come by those feelings deservedly.Read More...

Donít stop learning or you stop living

I distinctly remember the last class I attended my last term in college. It was a history class on the pre-Civil War South taught by my all-time favorite professor, Dr. Emory Thomas. The final session was one afternoon in March 1978, and I recall walking back to my car afterwards, thinking, ďThatís it; Iím done. No more classes. No more homework. No more exams. Just a signed permission slip, a handshake agreement, maybe help keep unwanted visitors off the land, put up a few posted signs, put up a few gates or cables across logging roads to keep the place private.Read More...

Donít let bucks stand in your way

Deer hunters across South Carolina look forward to the end of October almost as much as their kids look forward to circling the neighborhood, knocking on doors and filling bags with candy.

Good results are equally appreciated by both parties. The only difference might be, the deer hunters donít suffer any tooth decay ó unless they raid on their kidsí stashes of chocolate.Read More...
