Fish your strength

If you read this column on a regular basis, you know that I talk a lot about February and March being the best months to catch a big bass in our South Carolina lakes. Thatís true, but itís also true that April is probably the best all-around month to fish for bass. Itís a fun time to fish, moreso than any other month, because you can fish like you want to. Time to crank íem up

Across South Carolina, March is a tremendous month to get on some really big bass, and I try to take advantage of every chance Iíve got to get on the water. Almost all of the bass in our lakes are either spawning or getting ready to spawn, and you can find some really aggressive fish.Read More...

Turn to stripers this month

Deer season is over, and hopefully, everybody has got plenty of venison in the freezer. Bass in South Carolina are usually lethargic this month; I usually wait until the first of February when we get a few warm fronts to start targeting them.

I get my January fill of fishing with striped bass. Theyíre a lot less lethargic than bass, and this month is my favorite time to fish for stripers. The schooling action is great; I love to catch them, I love to eat them, and it seems to me they taste better coming out of colder water.Read More...

Hook a holiday jig fish

I make my living bass fishing, but I love to fish for other species during my offseason, and December is probably my favorite month to fish in the offseason.

In South Carolina, we can enjoy good fishing even in December, because a lot of time, the weather is really pleasant. Some days can be in the 60s and 70s, and by December, Iíve normally gotten deer hunting out of my system, so I enjoy getting out and catching crappie or striper for a fish fry, or catching largemouth bass for fun.Read More...

November = swimbaits

Time to Ďtop offí a bass

As far as just, plain enjoyment in bass fishing, I donít know if it gets any better than topwater.

There are a lot of pros and cons about what I do, but Iíve been very blessed to have called bass fishing my job for 20 years, and fishing tournaments, I have to fish certain baits and techniques fish to catch fish and cash checks. Sometimes, thatís a drop-shot rig, but fortunately, it can be a topwater bait.Read More...
